Newport police seeks new recruits

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department is looking for new recruits to join the city’s police force.

Applications to join the NPD are being accepted from Dec. 18 until Feb. 20.

Applications can be filled out online.

Applicants must be 21 years old as of Feb. 20, 2024 and must be a high school graduate or possess a GED/ equivalent.

Entry-level candidates must complete a physical and written assessment. Certified police officers are not required to complete these assessments.

Existing officers may be eligible for a $5,000 sing-on bonus and tiered pay plan.
