Warwick neighborhood floods as Pawtuxet River rises

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A neighborhood in Warwick flooded as the Pawtuxet River continued to rise early Tuesday.

Water from the river rose into residential areas in Pawtuxet Village, like East Avenue in Warwick.

ABC 6 News saw submerged cars in the area as water rose from the aftermath of Monday’s heavy wind and rain.

The National Weather Service said the Pawtuxet River rose over 14 feet. Evacuations were possible starting at 14.5 feet.

Warwick police said early Tuesday that through traffic was closed in the area of East Avenue.

The section of East Avenue, which is off of Bald Hill Road, to West Warwick was only open to local traffic.

The West Warwick side of the bridge was also closed to through traffic at Providence and River streets.
