CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — Flooding from the aftermath of the storm that hit Southern New England earlier this week continued to postpone the return to the classroom.

Cumberland Public Schools remained closed for a second day in a row due to flooding in the bus yard.

“The area surrounding the bus yard is flooded and the buses cannot be accessed,” the district said in a Facebook post.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island were also closed.

Cumberland saw significant localized flooding from the Blackstone River on Tuesday.

Police closed Martin Street and Ann and Hope Way to through traffic as the water spread.

Flooding was so dire inside and around the Hotel for Homeless Dogs that dogs had to be rescued one by one on a kayak.

The river flooding didn’t end in Blackstone Valley.

Local police and fire departments were busy all day, monitoring road closures from flooding in communities near the Pawtuxet, Wood, and Pawcatuck rivers.

Warwick’s Toll Gate High School, which has been having roof issues since Monday’s storm, continued distance learning.
