1 hospitalized, 6 displaced after fire in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Fire Department said that one person was hospitalized and six adults are displaced after a fire broke out in an apartment-style building.

According to the department, firefighters were called to the area of 94 Ashley Blvd. for a report of a fire in a three-story building with six units inside.

Officials said that smoke and fire alarms inside alerted the tenants and firefighters put out the fire that started on the second floor and spread to the third,

One resident from the second floor was taken to St. Luke’s Emergency Department for evaluation of “non-critical injuries.” No firefighters were injured.

The American Red Cross is assisting the six adults displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
