Update: Warwick Police identify man injured in pedestrian accident

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – Police have identified the Warwick man in critical condition, after being hit by a car while crossing the street Friday morning.
According to Warwick Police, the accident occurred on Greenwich Avenue (Route 5), just south of the Warwick Mall.
Police closed off the road for a couple of hours while investigating the crash.
The victim, identified as David J. Quinn, 68, of Warwick, received CPR on scene, and was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with a head injury.
The crosswalk he was using is right in front of the Greenwich Village apartment complex, which houses many elderly and disabled people.
Residents ABC 6 spoke with Friday morning say the crosswalk has a bad history of accidents, and numerous people have been struck in recent years.
One woman we spoke to, Debra Brynes, who says she was hit in the exact same crosswalk four years ago.
“He hit me in the crosswalk, threw me 20 feet in the air going 50 miles per hour,” Brynes said. “I sustained numerous medical problems — broken hand, I had knee surgery, I have a bone–chip in my head, I get vertigo.”
Brynes says she has called the City of Warwick and the Rhode Island Department of Transportation numerous times, asking them to make the crosswalk safer.
“They really need to do something about this light,” she said. “Like lights and a camera would probably be the best thing, but every time I call the city its ‘Oh we cant do that.’ Well why not? They have them in Providence, you can’t put them out here?”
Warwick Police do not suspect drugs, alcohol, or speed were a factor in Friday’s crash, however, they said the glare from the sun at that hour effected the drivers visibility.
According to Police, Quinn is still listed in critical condition as of Saturday morning, but is awake and able to speak.
Warwick Police continue to investigate, and it is unclear if the driver of the vehicle will face charges at this time.
