NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The North Providence Police Department is investigating a home on Centredale Avenue as part of a homicide investigation.

Police Chief Alfredo Ruggiero said a 61-year-old woman was found shot and killed in her home.

He said that the department received a call from the woman’s brother on Wednesday, where he said he visited her home after not seeing her since Thanksgiving and finding her face down on the couch.

The death was not determined to be a homicide until an autopsy that was held Thursday morning, which launched the current investigation.

Ruggiero said the department considers the death an isolated incident, and that there is no danger to the public.

He added that the Medical Examiner’s Office identified the death as a homicide and the incident is being investigated by the department and the Attorney General’s Office.

ABC 6 News crews on scene saw police tape outside the home as well as multiple police vehicles and officers going in and out of the residence.
