One dead, one seriously wounded in Providence stabbing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A woman was killed and a second person was seriously hurt after a stabbing in Providence on Wednesday morning.

Maj. David Lapatin said a woman in her mid to late 20s was stabbed at a multi-family home on Adelaide Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. She later died from her injuries.

Lapatin said a second victim suffered serious injuries.

A suspect was taken into custody later on.

Residents of Adelaide Avenue told ABC 6 they are a tight-knit neighborhood, and that the violent incident left them shaken.

A woman who lives on the third floor of the home said she called 911 after she was woken up by screaming.

She told ABC 6 the victims are a mother and daughter.

None of the names of those involved were immediately released.
