Purse-snatching suspect arrested in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A man accused of stealing an 82-year-old woman’s purse has been arrested by New Bedford police.
The incident occurred on December 18 around 3 p.m. in the New Bedford Market Basket parking lot when the victim was loading groceries into her car.
The victim fought back but was overpowered by the suspect, identified as Isaias Ferreira DaCosta, 31.
Detective Roberto Dacunha discovered through records that the suspect allegedly tried to use the victim’s stolen credit cards.
Surveillance footage was obtained, helping officers identify the suspect as DaCosta, according to police.
DaCosta was located in the area of Holly Street and Ashley Boulevard and placed under arrest by detectives on December 23.
DaCosta has been charged with unarmed robbery of a victim over 60-years-old, and five counts of attempting to use the victim’s credit card.
The suspect also had three other arrest warrants.
“Officers try their best to solve all robberies, however, when the perpetrator is someone who targets the elderly, it strikes a particular chord with everyone involved,” said Chief Paul Oliveira.
