Providence gears up for New Year’s Eve celebration

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence is gearing up for a free citywide New Year’s Eve celebration.
“Our community needs opportunities to come together. This is a family-friendly event, the people have been walking through here all day while we were setting up, asking all the questions,” said Alexis Gorriaran, chair of the Providence Tourism Council. “And there’s been a genuine excitement of bringing people together and having a free public event.”
Festivities like food trucks and drinks, art activities, and musical entertainment will illuminate 195 District Park from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
A WaterFire lighting beginning at 7 p.m. will set the stage for a special fireworks show slated for 8:30 p.m.
“I am thrilled to share that the city of Providence is hosting a spectacular, free New Year’s Eve celebration that everyone can enjoy,” said Mayor Brett Smiley. “Join us downtown with your loved ones for an evening full of music, art, great food, and a fireworks display to shine over our vibrant city as we ring in a new year full of promise and prosperity for all of Providence.”
