New court date set for Providence man accused of stabbing roommate to death

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man accused of killing his roommate in Providence this past summer was set to be arraigned on Wednesday, but his court appearance was moved.

Yomar Espada, 28, will now appear in Providence Superior Court on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Espada allegedly stabbed his roommate, William Sarmiento, multiple times after an argument on the first floor of a Sterling Avenue home.

The stabbing happened in the middle of the afternoon on Wednesday, July 26.

Sarmiento, 30, walked out the front door and collapsed on Judith Street.

Police said Espada fled from the house and was arrested two hours later.

He faces a felony charge of second degree murder.
