Fall River man sentenced in drunk driving death

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fall River man has been sentenced in a fatal drunk driving incident that occurred in 2021.

23-year-old Jason Lindsay was sentenced to five to seven years in state prison for the incident that killed 19-year-old Jaedin Monteiro, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.

Lindsay pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to a charge of manslaughter while operating under the influence among other charges.

The incident occurred on January 29, 2021 when Lindsay, Monteiro and a 15-year-old Fall River boy were driving in a 2003 Lexus sedan.

Lindsay drove the group to a liquor store where an unknown male bought several nip bottles of Captain Morgan for him.

The unknown male entered the vehicle and the group smoked marijuana while Lindsay drove.

Entering Dartmouth, Lindsay began driving recklessly at a high speed and lost control of the vehicle on Route 6, crashing into a utility pole near China Belle Restaurant.

The rear passenger door where Monteiro was sitting was ripped off in the collision, resulting in serious head injuries.

Monteiro died in the crash.

The other two passengers suffered serious injuries.

Lindsay suffered minor injuries.

Lindsay was determined to be driving 99 miles per hour at the time of the collision and his blood alcohol content was found to be .19, more than twice the legal limit.

No one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.
