Southern New England prepares for weekend snowstorm for first time this winter
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Southern New England will see its first snowfall of the winter season this weekend.
The notably late first winter storm is expected to begin Saturday afternoon. It could possibly last until Sunday night.
A snow accumulation of 6 to 12 inches is possible in central and northern Rhode Island. Southern Rhode Island will likely see 3 to 6 inches.
The most difficult travel time for drivers will be Sunday afternoon.
Power outages are possible in areas with heavy snow.
Southern New Englanders are encouraged to secure shovels, ice scrapers, and salt or ice melts.
They are further advised to make a storm kit in case of power outages — this includes batteries, flashlights, a First Aid kit, and non-perishable food items.
