Vigil to be held for Smithfield teacher who died suddenly

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Smithfield School Department said it would be holding a remembrance vigil for Katherine Young, who died suddenly last weekend.

The candlelight vigil will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 4:30 p.m. starting in Deerfield Park and concluding at Smithfield High School.

The event is open to all.

The school department added it is planning a larger event for March or April, details of which will be announced at a later date.

Young taught music at the high school for 10 years, organizing trips for students as well as musicals.
