Charlestown police to host safety academy

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – Charlestown residents will have a chance to learn firsthand from their public safety officials in an exclusive academy.
The Charlestown Police Department announced today that it will be hosting a nine-week citizens public safety academy beginning March 5.
Participants must live or work in Charlestown and be at least 18 years of age.
The academy is designed to provide residents the opportunity to learn and interact with public safety professionals.
Classes will be held at Charlestown Police Headquarters on Route 1A on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m.
The interactive sessions will include hands-on demonstrations and live presentations with police, fire and rescue crews.
Topics covered in the sessions include CPR, patrol operations and K-9 demonstrations.
