Fenton-Fung planning to challenge Hopkins for Cranston mayor this fall

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island’s 2024 Fall election cycle just got more interesting, as a familiar face has emerged in the mix for Cranston’s mayoral role.
State Representative Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung told ABC 6 News Tuesday evening that she is planning to challenge Mayor Ken Hopkins in the Republican primary.
Fenton-Fung, 43, is the wife of former Cranston Mayor, Allen Fung, whom Hopkins succeeded four years ago.
She is expected to make the campaign official at a launch party on January 30 at the Revolution restaurant in Pawtuxet Village.
“It’s obvious Cranston has lost its mojo and the third floor of City Hall has lost its way,” Fenton-Fung said in a statement. “We are going to boldly right this ship with a level of camaraderie and honesty that has been missing at City Hall for the past three years.”
