PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE-TV)— In the Ocean State, all eyes are on the race for state’s top office of Governor.

The candidates, too, voting in the mid term election. Incumbent Governor Gina Raimondo and her husband cast their ballots in Providence at Nathan Bishop Middle School. She wasn’t afraid to tell reporters that she voted Democrat straight down the ballot.

It’s been a long and nasty campaign trail between the Governor and her challengers. And this morning, the attacks continued.

“As I’ve said before, I don’t see much difference between Alan Fung and Joe Trillo. Like, they are essentially both Republicans, they oppose all the change I have been bringing, they oppose our jobs programs, they are both strong supporters of President Trump’s policies, and I really think they’d hurt Rhode Island,”said Raimondo.

Over in Cranston, Mayor Allan Fung cast his ballot at Hope Highlands Middle  School.  He told reporters he felt good and that Cranston and Warwick– the areas he refers to as his bread and butter– are coming out in big numbers. Fung also addressed the idea that the Trillo and Raimondo campaigns are colluding against him.

“That $100k that they spent was clearly designed to siphon the vote away from me. But I trust in Rhode Islanders, I trust in our base and they know that a vote for Joe is nothing more than a vote for her and 4 more years of incompetence, mismanagement, reckless spending. I’m asking everyone for their support. I feel good. Momentum’s on our side,” said Fung.

And in Warwick,Republican-turned-Independent candidate Joe Trillo cast his ballot at St. Gregory’s Church.

“Well I suppose I’m going to take away votes from Gina, too.I mean, isn’t that the process? You take away, so there’s been 6 people in the race. Everybody’s taking away from everybody,” said Trillo.

Many political experts seem to think Trillo has no shot at the governor’s seat and that his campaign is only taking votes away from Allan Fung’s campaign, thus punching Governor Raimondo’s ticket to re–election.
