1 dead, another injured after crash on I-95 South

RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) – State Police confirm that one person is dead following a serious crash on I-95 South Friday night.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m., and police tell us one person was pronounced dead at the scene, and another was brought to Rhode Island Hospital.

One lane was left open following the crash, causing backed up traffic on 95 South near exit 5. 

We’re told the medical examiner has been called to the scene as authorities try to piece together exactly what happened.

Traffic was being routed off of the highway at exit 5A and being detoured around the crash site, but the highway opened back up just before 11 p.m.

The crash is still under investigation.
