Patriots officially name Jerod Mayo as new head coach

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — The New England Patriots officially named Jerod Mayo as their new head coach Friday.

The announcement followed several reports that Mayo would be next to helm the team.

Mayo will succeed Bill Belichick, who parted ways with the team after 24 years on Thursday.

Mayo will be the 15th head coach in the history of the Patriots, and also the youngest head coach in the NFL at age 37.

There will be an official introductory press conference announcing the hire at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at noon.

Team President Jonathan Kraft, team owner Robert Kraft and Mayo will be in attendance.
