Lifespan reinstates masking requirements due to increased respiratory infections

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Lifespan Health Systems said that it has reinstated masking requirements at its facilities after increases COVID-19 and other respiratory illness infections.

Lifespan said the policy is meant to protect patients, staff, and visitors.

Visitors are required to wear a Level 2 surgical mask inside the patient room and exam room while the patient is receiving care, while employees must wear a Level 2 surgical mask N95 while providing patient care.

Lifespan said it had a daily average of 41 COVID-positive inpatients across its four hospitals in December, which was almost double November’s average of 21.

It added that its January average for the first nine days of the month has been 71.
