Secretary of State visits high school as students hold mock vote

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) — Secretary of State Gregg Amore visited Davies Career and Technical High School Friday to promote voting registration.

Students at the school cast their votes for student council on actual voting machines with mock ballots.

The results will determine school-wide student council positions.

Amore said that the process should make students more comfortable with voting in actual elections.

There’s no pressure here,” he said. “They’re comfortable with this system.”

Amore said 17-year-old’s can now vote in primary elections as long as they are registered to vote and will be 18-years-old before the general election.

Rhode Islanders can register to vote if they are 16-years-old.
