Providence police arrest suspect in New Year’s Eve hit-and-run

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department said it made an arrest in New Year’s Eve’s fatal hit-and-run.

31-year-old Ariel Acosta will be charged with charged with hit and run, death resulting.

A green 2005 Toyota Highlander was also towed to police headquarters for processing.

57-year-old Edwin English, the victim in the incident, died Tuesday morning.

Police were originally looking for a a dark-colored SUV with front-end damage.

The incident remains under investigation.
