Albion post office reopens after fire three-and-a-half years ago
LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) – The Albion Post Office in Lincoln was destroyed in a fire three-and-a-half years ago.
The post office officially reopened this morning.
The reopening is a big relief for the people who live in Albion. Hundreds of them didn’t have mailboxes and had to drive to the Manville Post Office just to get their mail.
Steve Doherty of the U.S. Postal Service said, “We were as anxious as as the people in that neighborhood to get back into operation locally, because we understand its while it wasn’t a tremendous distance having to travel over to Manville; it was a pain-in-the-neck for our customers. And the quicker we could get back up and operational in the location, the better. So again we’re thrilled to be back there.”
The new post office is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and on Saturday’s from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
