Thousands without power in South County
Thousands in South County are still without power Tuesday night.
NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) – Thousands in South County are still without power Tuesday night.
“It was a wicked wind though. It rained, it poured, everything went sideways,” said Rob Engstrume of South Kingstown.
On Meadow Ave where Engstrume lives near South County Hospital, a tree took out the power for the street.
“Heard a big bang, happened to be a giant tree!” said Bethany Engstrom of Wakefield.
Her home on Pond Street had just gotten power back on just before 7 P.M.
“It’s definitely taken working from home to a new level.”
The power outages sent dozens to the beach in the storm’s aftermath to wait it out.
“A power line fell across my driveway. It was sparking. Fire trucks came. I was like, ‘oh man, I got to go surf! said Steven Torrisi of South Kingstown.
National Grid will be working to restore power throughout the night where it’s safe to do so.
A national grid spokesperson tells ABC 6 the focus Tuesday night will be addressing 9-1-1 calls and downed wires.
