Providence school zone speed camera warning period ends

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Starting Tuesday, drivers that violate Providence school zone speed laws in areas monitored by speed cameras will receive fines.
Beginning Tuesday, October 23, operators driving at speeds of 31 miles per hour or more in one of the fifteen areas monitored by automated speed cameras will receive a fine of $50.
The Providence Department of Public Safety tweeted about the end of the warning period Monday afternoon:
Tomorrow, October 23rd is the day we begin issuing fines for speeding in the 15 school zones with automated camera enforcement. You will face a $50 fine for going 31 MPH or greater. Slow down please. SMP

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Beginning Tuesday, September 4, speed cameras will be back in operation at various school zone locations in Providence.
The cameras, which were first put into service back in January, were deactivated over the summer.
The city announced last week that the cameras will be re-activated starting September 4, and will monitor speeds in school zones between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on school days, Monday through Friday.
For the first 30 days that the cameras are activated, speed limit violators will be issued warnings. Starting October 23, operators traveling 11 miles per hour or more above the speed limit in camera monitored areas will receive a fine of $50.
Five additional cameras will be in use, raising the number of cameras from 10 to 15. Camera locations will be rotated based on which areas experience the most traffic and speed violations.
