BILLERICA, Mass. (WLNE) — A Providence man has been arrested after attempting to break into a storage facility and leading police on a chase Monday.

Alexander Encarnacion, 29, fled from the storage facility in a U-Haul van after the attempted break-in at around 10:30 p.m., according to Massachusetts state police.

The van took a ramp onto Route 95 north with Billerica police and Massachusetts state police in pursuit.

The van was observed to have a covered rear license plate and the driver was wearing an orange ski mask.

The suspect struck stop sticks, a tire deflation device, placed on the road by a trooper but continued to speed away.

He then exited Route 95  for a Lynnfield, Mass. exit and collided with an unoccupied Lynnfield police cruiser and fled on foot.

The suspect was pursued and located on Lincoln Ave in Lynnfield by a trooper and her K-9 partner, Thor.

Encarnacion was taken to Lahey Hospital in Peabody for treatment for bite injuries sustained in the K-9 arrest.

He was then booked for negligent operation of a motor vehicle among a host of charges.

Encarnacion was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail and will be arraigned Tuesday morning.
