RIDOT places steel beams in $196M bridge construction
NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced that they have successfully placed three steel beams as a part of the new bridge construction over Route 146.
Over the weekend, RIDOT closed lanes on the Route 146 intersection with Sayles Hill Road in North Smithfield.
RIDOT reported that more than 171,000 vehicles travel the route between Providence and Worcester each day.
The $196 million-dollar overpass project will aid in helping to ease traffic and accidents on Sayles Hill Rd., where more than 85 accidents have been reported each year.
RIDOT said that this project will also consist of making other safety improvements like replacing guardrails, building new drainage systems, and other adjustments regarding interchanging roads.
Construction is predicted to finish in 2026.
