Suspect in fatal hit-and-run charged

WRENTHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A suspect has been charged in a Tuesday hit-and-run accident that left one person dead.

Patrick Royster, 42, of Taunton attempted to cross Route 1 at approximately 5:30 p.m. and was struck by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and identified himself to police.

James Leitao, 50, of Plainville is not facing charges at this time.

Police reported that a second vehicle struck Royster while he was down on the road.

A witness described the second vehicle as pickup truck with a plow, which stopped at the scene and then left before police arrived.

The witness provided police with a license plate number on the plow truck, identifying the driver as Gregory Stahl, 73, of Wrentham.

He has been charged with causing death, leaving the scene of a collision and an expired license.
