Johnston man strikes two police cruisers, arrested for DUI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Police announced today that a man was arrested for driving under the influence after striking two police cruisers in Providence early Sunday morning.
Police say 40-year-old Joseph Giudici of Johnston drove into two State Police cruisers parked on Route 6 at 1:14 a.m. Sunday, sending two Troopers to the hospital.
The cruisers were stopped in the left lane of Route 6 West with emergency lights activated while officers prepared to assist with the cleaning of road debris.
Officials say Giudici sideswiped one cruiser before rear-ending the second on the passenger side.
All three vehicles suffered serious damage.
Two Troopers were treated on scene and transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.
“I’m thankful that these Troopers sustained only minor injuries and want to once again remind drivers to drive sober and move over when they see emergency lights,” said Colonel Darnell S. Weaver, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police.
Giudici was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, per officials.
