Barrington police asking for public’s help to find child’s ashes

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Barrington police department received a call from a Barrington family in the area of Nayatt Road for a break-in where a burglar stole a child’s ashes.

The victim said they arrived home and saw evidence at the house that made it clear someone broke in.

Through the investigation police discovered a home safe was stolen and inside of it were the ashes of their child.

“We discussed with the family whether they wanted to release the fact that the ashes of a deceased child were in the safe and they thought it was a good,” Col. Michael E. Correia said.

Now the police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect and find the safe.

The suspect was believed to be driving a gray Dodge Ram pick-up truck.

“If you have anything that can help the Barrington police department locate the safe and its contents, please call us if you have any info as to who the suspect is, please call us,” Correia added. “We are looking to do two things, recover the safe and its contents and to hold someone accountable for breaking into a town resident’s home.”
