Pedestrian hit by Fairhaven police cruiser dies
FAIRHAVEN, MASS (WLNE) – The victim of a pedestrian-involved accident with a police cruiser died in the hospital on Thursday.
At 11:00 PM Tuesday, a Fairhaven Police cruiser was being driven westbound on Route 6 when it struck 32-year-old Christian Lapaz-Dejesus, just west of the 7-eleven.
The officer driving the cruiser stayed on scene and rendered aid to Lapaz-Dejesus before he was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after sustaining serious injuries.
He was later transferred to the hospital in Boston.
He was pronounced dead at 8:30 on Thursday night.
Lapaz-Dejesus was a resident of New Bedford.
