Man hit by car in Warwick, in critical condition
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Police say a man is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Warwick earlier today.
Officers responded to Nausauket Road at 5:43 p.m. on Saturday after reports of a man laying barely conscious in the roadway.
Police say they arrived to find the 45-year-old victim unconscious with traumatic injuries to his head.
An initial investigation by the Warwick Police Traffic Units’ Accident Reconstruction Team showed that the victim was crossing Nausauket Road near the intersection of Long Street when he was struck by the front passenger-side of a car.
He was not in a cross walk at the time of the collision.
The victim’s head impacted the windshield of the car, resulting in major trauma, according to officials.
He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Police say the driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with the investigation.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors, per authorities.
No charges are pending at this time, but the investigation is currently ongoing.
