High school senior gets scholarship after saving man at Raising Cane’s

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A high school senior from Richmond got a surprise after she saved a man who was choking at Raising Cane’s in Johnston.

The company gave Chaia Elwell a $10,000 scholarship to help pay for her nursing schooling at Southern Connecticut State University.

Elwell, a student at Chariho High School, noticed Anthony Repucci was choking in the restaurant during its first week open and immediately helped him.

“I did not hesitate, surprisingly I jumped in, I wasn’t even thinking really, I just asked him if I could help him,” she said.

Repucci was also at the restaurant to see Elwell be gifted the scholarship.

“Honestly if she wasn’t there I don’t know what would have happened,” he said.

Elwell was also awarded a gift card for free chicken for a year.
