New Hampshire man arrested for attempted robbery at one home, breaking into another

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — According to the East Greenwich Police Department, a man was arrested for attempting to seal one man’s car at knifepoint and breaking into another family’s home.

Police identified Brian Johnson, 30, of Hampstead, NH, after a chase through an East Greenwich neighborhood.

Around 6:50 p.m. police were dispatched to Justin Rd. for a possible armed breaking and entering.

The filing party said that Johnson allegedly followed him into his garage and demanded the resident’s car at knifepoint.

The resident chased Johnson off his property after he revealed that he was carrying a concealed weapon.

It was addressed that the weapon was misfired and then laid down unloaded.

Upon arrival of the scene, officers secured the resident’s firearm and then began searching the area for the suspect.

While searching the area, dispatch received another call from an adjacent road saying that there was a white male allegedly waving a rock and demanding entrance to their home.

The homeowner told police that he drew a gun at Johnson.

Officers entered the Shippeetown Rd. scene and found Johnson in the kitchen next to a shattered door with a rock beside it.

Police noticed heavy bleeding from Johnson’s forearms. He was ordered to lie down on the floor and then searched for weapons. Officers found a knife in his rear pocket.

He was treated at Kent Hospital then taken into custody.

Johnson is being charged with the following in Rhode Island:

  • Breaking and entering
  • First degree robbery
  • Assault with intent to commit specified felonies
  • Two counts of Vandalism
  • Obstructing an officer on duty

Officers learned later that Johnson was missing from New Hampshire.
