Bellingham police release video of hit and run in stolen work truck

BELLINGHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bellingham Police Department released today on their social media a video of a man who stole a truck from his job, crashed into another vehicle, and then fled the scene while under the influence.
The video shows Massimo Sweet, 23, of Ashland recklessly operating a stolen box truck on Pulaski Blvd at 80 mph.
He is seen speeding past three vehicles before colliding with a fourth then flees the scene.
Bellingham police shared with ABC 6 that they responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 where the operator of the vehicle that was hit provided a license plate of the offending vehicle.
After further investigation Bellingham police learned that Sweet’s employer reported the truck as stolen to Hopkinton police earlier that night.
The operator turned himself in to West Greenwich police later that night. Sweet said to officers that he did not know how he ended up in West Greenwich.
He confessed to West Greenwich officials that he was under the influence of “shrooms.”
Officers reported that when Sweet turned himself in, he appeared to be sober.
Sweet reported to West Greenwich officials that he believed to have hit someone, but he could not remember where.
No serious injuries were reported.
Sweet is being charged with driving without consent.
The driver will appear in court next month.
