New Bedford man with criminal history arrested in drug bust

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – A New Bedford man with a criminal history was arrested over the weekend after being found in possession of illegal drugs and cash.

Jarrod Alves, 35, was taken into custody on Saturday at the conclusion of an investigation into a cocaine distribution operation being conducted on Phillips Avenue.

Officials say they confiscated over 157 grams of cocaine and 80 grams of fentanyl from Alves’s apartment.

Police Chief Scott Carola says Alves was also found to have materials used for distributing drugs and over $2,400 in drug money.

Alves has a history of convictions for a variety of charges and was out on probation at the time of his arrest, per authorities.

According to officials, Alves had previously been charged with firearm offenses, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Carola says Alves is now facing a multitude of new charges including trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute classes A, B, C, D, and E.  

New Bedford police ask anyone with information to contact their crime unit at 508-99-CRIME.
