COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) – Coventry Police have located a second neglected dog believed to be connected to another malnourished dog found over the weekend.

Monday morning, Coventry Police officers were dispatched to a location on Woodland Drive in Coventry, where they discovered an emaciated, female pit bull inside of a vehicle owned by a South Carolina resident.

The owner of the car told police that they found the dog Saturday morning on Nooseneck Hill Road. According to the vehicle owner, the dog was alone.

An investigation is underway, but it is believed that this second dog is connected to another malnourished dog discovered in the area of Sherwood Valley Road Saturday night.

After contacting authorities in South Carolina, Coventry Police have ruled out the owner of the vehicle discovered this morning as a possible suspect.

The Rhode Island SPCA (RISPCA) has pledged a $1,000 reward to be given to anyone that provides information leading to the arrest of any suspects involved in this case.

Handsome Dan’s Rescue has also offered to give $500 in addition to the RISPCA award for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to contact the Coventry Police Department at 401-826-1100 or tips@coventrypd.org.
