East Providence Police arrest suspect in head stabbing incident

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Providence Police Department said it arrested a suspect in Friday’s head stabbing incident.
25-year-old Valdini Correia, of North Providence, was charged with domestic burglary, assault with intent to commit a felony, assault with a deadly weapon in a dwelling, weapons other than firearms prohibited, and domestic disorderly conduct.
The department said a call came in around 7 p.m. for a stabbing on Crescent Avenue. A second call then came in from the Cumberland Farms on Pawtucket Avenue and Wampanoag Trail, where the victim was found “bleeding profusely.”
The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he is in “serious but stable condition.”
Police said that Correia is accused of entering the victim’s apartment without permission and immediately began stabbing him before fleeing.
Police added the incident involved a dispute involving an ex-girlfriend.
Correia was arraigned and held without bail.
