North Providence Police launch Camera Registry Program
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The North Providence Police Department said it is launching a new initiative to allow residents to help if a crime occurs in their area.
The Camera Registry Program allows residents to register their private surveillance cameras to help officers get in touch with residents when a crime occurs nearby.
The department said that the registration does not give police access to footage automatically, and that stored information can be deleted upon request.
It added that residents do not need to register their names, just their address and the location of the cameras so officers can ask for footage if a crime occurs.
