Bill aimed at reducing carbon emissions from buildings introduced in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A new carbon emissions bill is being introduced in the Rhode Island House, with the goal of reducing carbon emissions from buildings.

The Building De-Carbonization Act would require large buildings to report their energy usage and emissions, set a process of standards to reduce their emissions and phase in requirements that all new construction use on electricity for energy and heating.

In 2021, Rhode Island enacted the Act on Climate which is dedicated to reducing the state’s carbon emissions to net-zero by 2050.
