FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Two off-duty Fall River police officers found their services needed far from home, and on a ski slope.
On January 28, Fall River Police Officers Guy Furtado and Garrett Nelson were skiing at Okemo Mountain Resort and were about to make one last run of the slope.
The officers made their way down the trail, and encountered a man calling for help.
William Polzun, Jr’s son Nathan had collapsed on their last run of the day.
Furtado and Nelson acted fast and found Nathan with no pulse.

Nelson called 911 and Furtado began life-saving CPR.
Polzun, Jr’s recollection of the incident was his own panicked screams for help followed by a calm voice saying “I’ll do the compressions, and hold his head while you give the breaths.”
It was Officer Furtado walking him through administering rescue breaths while Officer Nelson gave key details to responding ski patrol and additional advanced life support.
Nathan Polzun doesn’t remember what happened, but credits Officers Furtado and Nelson for saving his life.
The four men reunited recently, exchanging handshakes, hugs and heartfelt thanks.
