Repair or replace? Washington Bridge engineers’ report expected soon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is expecting to get reports from engineers any day now on whether the Washington Bridge needs repairs or an outright replacement.

According to RIDOT Director Peter Alviti, those reports are expected to be received by “end of February, beginning of March.”

RIDOT is also updating traffic patterns on the bridge, which is expected to take at least eight weeks.

Barletta Engineering and Aetna are the contractors under the current emergency contract.

The contract to repair or replace the bridge will be open to all contractors to bid.

RIDOT’s chief of public affairs says there are no updates at this time.
