Swansea farm solar project on hold after concerns from locals

SWANSEA, Mass. (WLNE) – A historic farm in Swansea is safe for now after locals expressed concerns about a plan to place solar panels on the land.

The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA), owners of the Martin House Farm on Stoney Hill Road, said Tuesday that the project is on hold for the foreseeable future.

The Swansea Historical Society previously shared that the NSCDA was considering allotting at least ten acres of the historic farmland to solar panels.

According to the NSCDA website, the Martin House Farm is a “rare example of an 18th and early 19th century farm, which still retains the character of its original setting.”

In 1979, the Martin House Farm was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, an official list of cultural resources worthy of preservation, according to the NSCDA.
