RIDOH warns of products that could lead to Botulism

Customers are urged to avoid or throw out products for potential of toxins that cause Botulism

CRANSTON, RI (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Health is urging people to avoid certain products from ‘Health is Wealth Nutrition Center’ on Cranston Street in Cranston.

RIDOH says there are potential processing, storage, and control issues with the affected products, and they could allow toxins to survive, causing Botulism. Symptoms of Botulism include weakness, dizziness, double vision and trouble speaking, swallowing or breathing.

RIDOH lists the following products under investigation:

  • Health is Wealth Sea Moss Drink sold in 12oz and 16oz containers in a variety of flavors including but not limited to Blackberry, Fruit Punch, Soursop Guanabana, Strawberry, Passion Fruit, Pineapple, Mango, Guava Guayaba, and Tamarind.
  • Health is Wealth Sea Moss Smoothie sold in 12oz and 16oz containers in a variety of flavors including but not limited to Pina Coloda, Peanut Punch, Soursop/Guanabana, Cinnamon Vanilla, and Mango.
  • Health is Wealth Sea Moss Gel sold in 16 oz containers in a variety of flavors including Sea Moss Bladderwrack Aloe Vera Gel, Sea Moss Bladderwrack Gel, and Sea Moss Gel.
  • Health is Wealth Sea Moss Protein Shakes sold in 12oz and 16 oz containers in a variety of flavors including but not limited to Peanut and Cinnamon.

Health officials are advising customers to throw these products out. No illnesses have been associated with these products.
