Mansfield man arrested on charges of domestic assault, kidnapping

MANSFIELD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Mansfield Police Department said a man was arrested Friday night after allegedly taking a child from its mother before leading police on a chase.

The man was charged with failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, custodial kidnapping of an infant, operating a motor vehicle as to endanger a child, disorderly conduct, domestic assault and battery on the mother, and assault and battery.

Police received calls around noon which said a man had taken a child from its mother before fleeing the area. He also allegedly assaulted the mother and spat in a bystander’s face.

Officers searched for and eventually located the man’s car and followed him before he stopped on Route 140 in Foxborough.

Police said they spoke to the man, and eventually got him out of the vehicle, though he said he would not be allowed to be taken into custody.

Officers said they eventually had to “deploy two tasers” to take him into custody.

The child was asleep and unharmed in the vehicle’s rear seat for the entirety of the incident and was reunited with its mother.

The suspect is being held on $5,000 bail.
