Bronze missing from historic grave of artist Edward Bannister

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — According to the North Burial Ground, a significant piece of bronze from the late artist Edward Bannister has been reported missing.
The burial ground shared that the piece was noticed to be missing and reported to local officials.
Edward Bannister is one of Rhode Island’s most notable artists and among the celebrated Black artists in America.
Bannisters work can be found at the Smithsonian, Brown University, and the Rhode Island School of Design. Rhode Island College named their art gallery in his honor in 1978.
It is unclear if the piece was stolen.
This is an ongoing investigation.
