Stormy Saturday Night

Daylight Saving Time begins tonight, moving 2am to 3am. This will move our sunrise time to 7:05 and our sunset will be 6:47 for Sunday.

Saturday night we have a strong storm coming through with a number of elements including rain, wind and the potential for river flooding. Rain will become heavy at times through the overnight  with a chance of thunderstorms. Rain totals will likely range 1-2 inches, possibly higher in any thunderstorms. As a result, a FLOOD WATCH is in effect through Sunday morning. We have the potential of runoff leading to flooding of streams, low-lying areas in addition to poor drainage and extensive ponding on area roads. A WIND ADVISORY is in effect through Sunday morning as well. We have the potential to see southeasterly winds of 25-35 mph with gusts possible of 55 near the coast. Unsecured objects could be lofted and power outages are possible. A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY is in effect from Sunday morning through early afternoon. We could see 1-2 feet of inundation and areas most likely to be affected will be portions of coastal Newport, Portsmouth, and Middletown. Lastly, we have a FLOOD WARNING  in effect for many area rivers that are already running high from the last round of rainfall. The rivers of greatest concern are the Pawtuxet in Cranston, the Pawcatuck in Westerly, the Wood at Hope Valley and the Pawcatuck at Wood River Junction. They are all forecast to go into minor flood for at least a couple of days after the rain stops.  It will stop early Sunday morning and we will get to some sunshine. It will be breezy with highs in the lower 50s. Dry weather is here through most of the week ahead. Monday looks windy and cooler with highs in the 40s. Tuesday through Thursday will be a trio of sun-filled days with highs gradually increasing to the 60s.
