Taunton man arrested, charged with bank robbery in Raynham

RAYNHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A Taunton man was arrested and charged with robbing a bank in Raynham on Tuesday morning.
Officials allege 57-year-old John Stonge robbed Rockland Trust Bank on New State Highway just before 10 a.m.
A witness told police a man entered the bank, approached a teller, and passed a note demanding money and claiming to have a bomb.
The witness reported the suspect fled in a small, gray SUV, which officers found driven by Stonge a short distance away from the bank, according to authorities.
Police said Stonge initially refused to stop but ultimately pulled over and was taken into custody.
Officers located cash that was stolen from the bank and an electrical cord attached to a light switch made to look like an incendiary device.
Stonge was booked at the Raynham Police station and taken to Taunton District Court for arraignment, per officials.
Authorities said Stonge faces the following charges:
- Armed Robbery
- Making a False Bomb Threat
- Possession of a Hoax Incendiary Device
- Larceny Over $1,200
- Disorderly Conduct
- Disturbing the Peace
