Coventry fire caused by lithium battery

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Coventry Fire Department said that an e-bike battery was the cause of a fire on Tiogue Avenue on March 11.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal said the battery was plugged-in with a charger that was not compatible.

Three people had to be brought to Rhode Island Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The department added that battery should not be used if problems like an odor, smoke, change in color, overheating, or inability to maintain a charge occur.
