WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner announced that the Cranston Police Department will be getting an upgrade to their K-9 unit vehicle fleet.

The patrol canines assist Cranston police in search and rescue operations and other crucial duties.

Four of the Cranston Police Department’s K-9 unit vehicles, which transports three patrol dogs and one therapy dog, have needed replacements.

Today, Rep. Magaziner secured $344,000 in federal funding to accommodate these needs.

The K-9 vehicle unit funding is among 14 grant requests in the government funding legislation for FY 2024.

“Law enforcement officers and their canine counterparts work tirelessly to keep Rhode Islanders safe, and we owe it to them to ensure they have the equipment they need to do their jobs,” said Rep. Seth Magaziner. “I’m proud to secure this federal funding for the Cranston Police Department to support their K-9 unit and will continue to do my part in Congress to support local law enforcement.”
