Property owners in Cranston should expect revaluation assessments

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Ken Hopkins shared that over the next week, property owners will be receiving their revaluation assessments.

The city’s revaluation company, Vision Appraisal, has completed the state revaluation and consultation wit the Cranston tax assessor’s office.

The new values for residential, commercial, and industrial properties will reflect fair market values as of Dec. 31, 2023, according to Vision Appraisal.

Mayor Hopkins shared that residents will have the opportunity to discuss their new property values with Vision Appraisal.

Taxpayers should review the notices to ensure that the data collected is accurate. If needed, taxpayers can file a formal appeal with the Cranston Tax Assessment Board of Review or escalate their review to the RI Court System.

Property assessment will be available online.

The Mayor also shared that taxpayers should not utilize their current tax rate to try and determine their new tax bill.

He said the city’s total assessed taxable property base will increase reflecting the new values.

Mayor Hopkins stated, “A new and lower tax rate will be determined through the on-going budget process that will start on April 1 with my budget submission to the city council. With the help of my finance team we are carefully reviewing departmental requests and their budget needs, including Cranston schools.”

The Mayor will introduce his proposed budget for the 2025 fiscal year around April 1.
